The Need:
Motivation, respect and self-esteem
can make a tremendous impact on todays youth. The DisAbility
Awareness Foundation, Inc. (DAF) emphasizes these character qualities
to empower children and youth in reaching their goals and overcoming
difficult personal and life situations. The challenges of life,
family and society have placed a greater demand on children at
a younger age. There is a need to teach our youth the proper coping
skills, such as:
Motivation -
How do I set goals and accomplish them
Respect - How can
I appreciate and encourage others
Self-Esteem - How
can I feel good about myself during difficult times
The Goal:
We believe the successes
and triumphs of citizens with disabilities in handling their own
difficulties provides them with tools that can be used by all
of us in overcoming personal challenges. Our foundation prepares
these people as speakers who can teach us about self-motivation,
respect for others, and valuing our own lives. With challenging
and entertaining stories, skits, and participation, these speakers
with disabilities along with other educational and motivational
speakers teach children how the Tools for Success
(Perseverance, Improvisation and a Positive Attitude),
can be used in every ones life and to allow each of us to
reach our full potential.
The Vision:
Along with teaching and empowering
todays youth, the DAF trains and motivates citizens with
disabilities to achieve their goals and become active participants
in their own communities. The DAF encourages these citizens to
share their wealth of experience so that whole communities can
work in harmony and support one another.
The Fulfillment:
This program is delivered
through assemblies and community outreach programs to schools
and our youth and by training citizens with disabilities who have
the desire and gift for reaching others. Our program creates a
special blend of education and inspiration that brings together
two special groups of people - children and citizens with disabilities.
It influences the spirit and values of the whole community by
building better citizens. By communicating the values of respect
and self esteem, future generations are taught how to overcome
difficult times.
Our Request:
This program can have a significant
direct impact with minimal investment. The proposed prospectus
of $160,000 covers trainers, speakers, transportation and administration.
The activities of the program are continuing year round, but are
primarily conducted during the school year.
Since the Foundations
inception over nine years ago, we have reached out to tens of
thousands of children, sharing with them the Tools of Success
program. With your help, we plan to reach out to all of Southern
California and beyond.
Please consider how your
support can make a significant impact on the future of your youth
and in developing a generation that learns to value themselves
and others.
We look forward to working
with you in the future.
